Mumbai, Apr 11: Indian cinema has reason to celebrate yet again as Homebound, a poignant drama starring Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor, has earned an official selection at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The film, produced by Bollywood heavyweight Karan Johar, will be showcased in the Un Certain Regard section — a space reserved for original and visionary storytelling.

Taking to Instagram, Karan Johar shared a carousel of pictures, including the official Cannes selection slate and behind-the-scenes glimpses from the film’s shoot. In an emotional note, Johar expressed his elation: “Homebound, our soulful story directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, has been selected for the illustrious Festival De Cannes! This moment is a testament to the power of Indian cinema… I always wished for one of our films to reach this prestigious global platform.”

Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, who previously made waves at Cannes with Masaan, Homebound marks a reunion between Ishaan and Janhvi, the duo who debuted together in Dhadak. For Khatter, this also marks a second appearance on the global cinematic stage following his international debut in Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds.

Johar lavished praise on Ghaywan, stating, “This achievement is not just a win for our film industry, but a beacon of hope for emerging filmmakers… You are that beacon!”

He also acknowledged the support of industry veteran Melita Toscan du Plantier, calling her a “strong pillar of strength and guidance” throughout the journey.

With this prestigious selection, Homebound continues India’s growing prominence at global film festivals, showcasing rich, rooted storytelling and bold creative voices. The team now gears up to represent India at the iconic red carpet of Cannes, with the world watching closely.
