Mangaluru, April 11: The District Congress organised a protest at the Clock Tower on Friday, condemning the Central government's recent hike in the prices of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas cylinders. The protesters expressed their concerns over how the price surge is severely impacting the daily lives of ordinary citizens.

MLC Ivan D'Souza, addressing the gathering, said, "The state government’s initiative of providing Rs 2,000 to women is helping families manage daily expenses amidst the rising costs of gas cylinders. However, it is crucial for us to raise our voices against the Central government's policies and their spread of misinformation."

Amruth Shenoy, another Congress leader, stated, "If this price hike continues, the public, particularly poor and middle-class families, will struggle to make ends meet. During Congress' tenure, when there was a mere 50 paise increase, leaders like Nalin Kumar Kateel and Shobha Karandlaje were seen protesting on the streets. Today, they have disappeared in silence."

The protest saw the participation of former Minister Ramanath Rai, Congress leaders Suhail Kandak, Ibrahim Nawaz, and Ashraf Bajal, who all strongly criticised the government's handling of the situation and voiced their discontent over the rising costs of essential commodities.
