Newcastle, Apr 14: Harvey Barnes fired home twice in a scintillating second-half display as Newcastle United crushed Manchester United 4-1 at St James’ Park on Sunday, notching up their fifth consecutive Premier League victory.

With manager Eddie Howe absent due to hospitalisation, assistants Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones took charge and their side did not disappoint. The Magpies started strong, dominating possession and taking a deserved lead through Sandro Tonali, who volleyed home a stunning opener after a deft assist from Alexander Isak.

Manchester United, struggling under new boss Ruben Amorim, found a lifeline before the break when Manuel Ugarte won the ball in midfield and set up a slick move that ended with Alejandro Garnacho coolly finishing past Nick Pope.

But Newcastle turned on the style after the interval. Just minutes into the second half, Barnes opened his account with a sharp finish from Jacob Murphy’s cutback. He struck again in the 64th minute, capitalising on a slip by Noussair Mazraoui before surging through the centre and blasting his shot into the top corner.

With Manchester United offering little in response, Newcastle sealed the emphatic win late on when Altay Bayindir’s error gifted Joelinton possession, who then fed Bruno Guimarães for a calm fourth.

The result sees Newcastle surge into the top four, strengthening their Champions League ambitions. In contrast, Manchester United's woes continue as they languish in 14th place after another dismal performance.
