Udupi, Apr 14: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, the Udupi CEN police arrested a man in possession of over 7 kilograms of ganja worth Rs 5.75 lac near Manipal.
The accused, identified as Areeb Ahmad (31), a resident of Gulzar Street, Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district, was allegedly attempting to sell ganja sourced from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
Acting on reliable information about the planned sale in a public area of 80 Badagabettu village, a team led by inspector Ramachandra Nayak, along with supporting staff, conducted a swift raid and apprehended the suspect.




Upon interrogation, Areeb failed to provide any valid documentation or license for the possession of the narcotics.
The police seized 7.304 kilograms of ganja from his possession, with an estimated value of Rs 5,75,000. In addition, officers confiscated two mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 20,000, a backpack used for transporting the contraband, a black bag, and Rs 1,520 in cash. The total value of seized items stands at Rs 5,96,520.
The accused reportedly confessed to having procured the ganja from a cycle rickshaw driver in Vijayawada. A case has been registered at the CEN police station, Udupi.
