Tata Power Renewable joins hands with NTPC for 200 MW green energy project

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 14: Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) announced on Monday that it has entered into a significant power purchase agreement (PPA) with NTPC Limited, India’s largest integrated power producer, for the development of a 200 MW renewable energy project.

The ambitious project will span multiple locations across the country and is slated for completion within 24 months. Once operational, it is expected to generate nearly 1,300 million units (MUs) of clean electricity annually — a move that could help reduce over 1 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, according to an official release.

TPREL secured the project through a competitive bidding process. The plan integrates a combination of solar, wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) technologies, marking a modern approach to renewable infrastructure.

A standout aspect of the initiative is its 4-hour peak power supply feature, designed to deliver at least 90% availability during high-demand periods. This will significantly aid power distribution companies in meeting surging energy requirements during peak hours.

This latest contract adds to TPREL’s growing renewable portfolio, bringing its total utility-scale renewable capacity to 10.9 GW. Out of this, 5.5 GW is currently operational — comprising 4.5 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind energy. The remaining 5.4 GW is in different stages of development, evenly split between solar and wind installations. These projects are expected to be rolled out over the next 6 to 24 months in a phased manner.

In addition to utility-scale power generation, TPREL offers an array of green energy solutions tailored for both urban and rural markets. These include turnkey services, EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) solutions, and operation and maintenance (O&M) support across diverse sectors such as rooftop solar and large-scale solar parks.

The company also operates a state-of-the-art solar cell and module manufacturing plant in Bengaluru, with capacities of 530 MW for cells and 682 MW for modules. An even larger 4.3 GW manufacturing facility is currently being developed in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu to meet the rising demand for indigenous solar components.

Beyond power generation, TPREL is actively expanding its footprint in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and offering advisory and technical services across the clean energy spectrum.
