Baghdad, Apr 15: Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi engaged in a telephone conversation to discuss regional security and the ongoing Iran-US nuclear negotiations, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry confirmed on Monday.
According to the ministry's statement, Hussein reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at bolstering peace and stability across the region. The conversation comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts to resolve tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme.

During the call, Araghchi updated his Iraqi counterpart on the latest developments in the indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, describing the talks as progressing “well.” He added that a second round of discussions would be held soon, once again under the mediation of Oman.
Welcoming the positive developments, Hussein commended Oman for its constructive role in facilitating dialogue between the two long-standing geopolitical rivals.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also extended a formal invitation to Fuad Hussein to visit Tehran, aiming to further enhance bilateral ties and deepen diplomatic engagement between the neighbouring nations.
Meanwhile, in a significant diplomatic gesture, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced that Rome will host the upcoming round of Iran-US nuclear talks. Speaking at the Italian pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Tajani stated that the Italian government had agreed to host the dialogue at the request of both negotiating parties and Oman.
“We are prepared to do everything necessary to support negotiations that could lead to resolving the nuclear issue and building lasting peace,” Tajani remarked.
The recent Muscat round of talks was described by both Iran and the United States as “constructive,” sparking cautious optimism over future diplomatic progress.
The unfolding multilateral efforts signal a renewed push to address longstanding nuclear tensions and regional instability, with Iraq, Oman, and Italy emerging as key diplomatic players in the process.
