Gurugram, Apr 16: Despite the registration of an FIR in the alleged rape of an air hostess inside the ICU of Medanta Hospital while she was on a ventilator, the Gurugram police remain without any breakthrough in the case.

The hospital, meanwhile, has issued a formal statement asserting that no allegations have been substantiated so far. “We have been made aware of a complaint from a patient and have been fully cooperating with the investigations conducted by the relevant authorities. At this stage, no allegations have been substantiated, and all relevant documents, including CCTV footage for the period in question, have been handed over to the police,” stated Dr Sanjay Durani, Medical Superintendent, Medanta, The Medicity.

As per the complaint lodged by the air hostess, she had been staying at a hotel in Gurugram for training when she nearly drowned in a swimming pool and was initially rushed to a private hospital. On April 5, she was shifted to Medanta by her husband, where she remained under treatment until her discharge on April 13.

The victim claimed that on April 6, while she was unconscious and on a ventilator, she was sexually assaulted by a hospital staff member in the ICU. She added that two nurses were present but did not intervene. Due to fear, she initially stayed silent but later informed her husband, following which a police complaint was lodged.

An FIR has been registered at the Sadar police station against unidentified hospital staff. The victim’s statement has been recorded before a magistrate.

A police spokesperson said, “We are reviewing the hospital’s CCTV footage to identify the accused. The investigation is underway, and we hope to make progress soon.”
