Udupi/Mangaluru, Apr 18: Christians across Udupi and Mangaluru marked Good Friday with solemn devotion on Thursday, April 18, reflecting on the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Churches across the coastal districts witnessed large gatherings as the faithful participated in services commemorating the Passion of Christ. The day began with the Way of the Cross, reenacting the final journey of Jesus to Calvary.

The liturgy, marked by quiet reflection, scripture readings, and veneration of the cross, was led by clergy in parishes across the region. The atmosphere in churches remained sombre as worshippers contemplated the immense sacrifice of Christ for the redemption of humanity.

Bishop of Udupi Diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo led the Good Friday service at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur. In his message, he urged the faithful to draw strength from the cross and live lives rooted in compassion, humility, and forgiveness.

Good Friday was observed with deep reverence at Angelore Church. The solemn service was led by Fr Stany Fernandes, who was assisted by Fr Fedrick Monteiro, the parish priest, and Deacon Jeevan Lobo. The liturgy commemorated the passion and crucifixion of Jesus Christ, inviting the faithful to reflect on his ultimate sacrifice.

Good Friday, observed as one of the most significant days in the Christian calendar, sets the tone for the Easter Triduum, culminating in the celebration of Easter Sunday.

Praise the Lord Jesus. Thank you Lord for your sacrifice. 1 Peter 2: 24 (24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”) Isaiah 53: 5-6 (5. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all).
