Mangaluru, Apr 19: Allegations of police negligence have come to light in connection with the Ullal gang rape case in Mangaluru, raising serious questions about the handling of the investigation. Crucially, new information has emerged indicating that the third accused was not present at the location where the alleged incident occurred.
It has been revealed that the third accused was travelling on his scooter on April 16, and did not travel in any car, contrary to earlier claims. The route taken by the accused included Jyothi Circle, Kankanady, Bejai Kapikad, Lalbagh, Ballalbagh, and Mannagudda, where he is said to have visited bars and shops. Concerns have now been raised that CCTV footage from these areas may be at risk of being destroyed by the police.
In light of this, Mangaluru-based advocates Vikram Raj and Jeevan A M, on behalf of the third accused, have submitted a petition before the court under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nagarika Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The petition urges the Mangaluru police commissioner to preserve and present the relevant CCTV footage in court before it is tampered with or lost.
The petition, submitted on April 19, seeks to ensure that all evidence is safeguarded and made available for judicial review.
