Bengaluru, Apr 21: Several parts of Karnataka experienced rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, causing damage in some areas. One person lost his life in Hassan district. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the coastal region on April 21.
With pre-monsoon showers expected to intensify, the IMD has forecasted thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rain in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on April 21. Parts of Dakshina Kannada, including Mangaluru, witnessed rain on Sunday. The maximum temperature recorded in Mangaluru was 33.1°C, which is slightly below normal, the IMD stated.

Casualty in Hassan, property damage in Nelamangala
In B T Koppal, a suburb of Hassan, a KSRTC employee died after stepping on a snapped live wire during the rains. In Kuniganahalli of the same taluk, a power pole collapsed onto an autorickshaw due to strong winds and rain, resulting in damage.
Heavy rains in Bengaluru’s Nelamangala led to roof damage in a school, the Stree Shakti Bhavan, and several homes. Coconut and areca trees were uprooted, adding to the chaos. In Devanahalli, over two hours of rain caused waterlogging in low-lying homes.
In Gundlupet taluk of Chamarajanagar district, banana plantations were damaged by the rain. Trees and power poles were also uprooted in various locations.
Drizzles were reported from Chikkaballapur, Haveri, Gadag, Chikkamagaluru, Davanagere, and Koppal districts.
