Mumbai (RBI), Apr 21: "In today’s era, art worship is not easy. It is only with the support of art lovers and art-minded parents that art can thrive. That is why my play has completed hundreds of performances—it stands as a testament to the appreciation of the audience," said senior Konkani theatre artist, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy award winner, and popular comedy actor Francis Fernandes Cascia.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a cultural evening organised by the Divine Mercy Konkani Organisation at Divine Mercy Church Hall, Mira Bhayandar, on the occasion of Easter Sunday. The programme was held in support of church building renovation.

Divine Mercy Church parish priest Fr Allwyn Nazareth felicitated Francis Fernandes Cascia and veteran theatre director Joy Paladka, congratulating them on their contributions to Konkani theatre. Fr Michael D’Souza, Fr Maria Anthony Pathinathan (CPPS), and nuns Sr Rachel Laharia, Sr Kiran Ekka, and Sr Neelam Lakra were present on the dais.

Maurice Pinto Hirgan (Karkal), Cecilia D’Souza, Ivan Quadros, Shanthi Pais, Mark Noronha, Norbert Noronha, Annie D'Souza, Rosemary D’Souza, Arun Pais, and Leena D’Souza honoured the chief guests and dignitaries.

Francis Fernandes Cascia’s theatre troupe staged the superhit Konkani comedy Mhataro Charbela, written by Francis himself. This marked the 89th successful staging of the play under the direction of renowned director Joy Paladka.

The cast included Joy Paladka, Betty Naz, Julie Vas, Gregory Sequeira (Niddodi), Peter Pais (Basroor), Shanthi Barboza (Boliye), Flora D’Souza (Kalmadi), Peter Cutinho (Mundkur), Lavina D’Souza (Jerimeri), and comedy king Francis Fernandes Cascia. The performers captivated the audience and received wide appreciation.

Eliza Quadras welcomed the gathering, while Florine Fernandes introduced the honourees. The event was compered by Henry Sequeira, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Matilda Danti.
