Brahmavar, Apr 22: In the wake of recurring accidents on National Highways, particularly in the Brahmavar region, member of parliament for Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency, Kota Srinivas Poojary, met with the regional officer (RO) of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), V P Brahmakar, in Bengaluru to address the ongoing safety concerns and infrastructure requirements.
A tragic incident in Brahmavar, where a school student recently lost their lives in a road accident, has intensified calls for immediate intervention. Local NHAI officials had earlier assured the construction of a service road from Bhadragiri Junction to Uppinakote in the presence of the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police. However, the project is yet to commence.

During the meeting, MP Kota voiced his concern over the delay and stressed the urgent need for service roads and enhanced infrastructure. He strongly urged the preparation and submission of a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Brahmavar flyover to the central government without further delay.
Highlighting the necessity for extended service roads, MP Kota observed that aside from the existing 15-km stretch between Hejamadi and Kundapura, an additional 42 km of new service roads are essential. He instructed that a comprehensive DPR encompassing these requirements be prepared and forwarded to the Centre at the earliest.
Responding to the MP’s demands, regional officer Brahmakar assured immediate action. He promised that the service road works would commence without delay and committed to submitting the DPR for both the flyover and the service roads from Hejamadi to Kundapura within a week.
Additionally, MP Kota informed union minister Nitin Gadkari of the issue through an official letter, a copy of which was also handed over to the regional officer. The meeting was attended by Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty, who accompanied MP Kota and extended his support for the proposals.
