Mumbai, Apr 23: The department of Philosophy at Mumbai University recently conducted the final examination for the 2023–2024 academic year. The exam pertained to a certificate course on the philosophy of Sri Narayana Guru.
Renowned senior Tulu-Kannadiga community leader from Mumbai, Jagannath Madan Amin, has secured the first rank in the certificate course and has also achieved the second rank in the diploma course.


At a seminar held on Friday, April 19, at the Kalina campus of Vidyanagari in Santacruz East, the head of the Philosophy Department, Dr Priya M Vaidya, and the coordinator of the Sri Narayana Guru Philosophy Certificate Course, Dr Narayan Shankar Gadad, honoured Jagannath Amin with an award, certificate of merit, and marks card.
Originally hailing from Kondevuru in Uppala, Kasaragod district, 82-year-old Jagannath Amin is the son of Madan Poojary and Lakshi Poojarthi. After completing his primary education in Uppala, he migrated to Mumbai in 1960 and continued his studies in a Kannada night school.
A close associate of Billava cooperative leader and ‘Billava Ratna’ awardee Jay C Suvarna, Jagannath Amin has been rendering part-time voluntary service at the Prasanthi Nilayam Ashram of Puttaparthi’s Sathya Sai Baba for over five decades.
While visiting his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren who reside in the USA, Jagannath Amin continued his studies and dedicated his time to the study of Sri Narayana Guru’s philosophy. Despite being a senior citizen, he appeared for the examination and passed with distinction. His academic achievement has drawn praise and admiration from numerous prominent individuals.
