Pahalgam terror attack: Maharashtra announces Rs 5 lac aid to kin of deceased tourists

Mumbai, Apr 23: In the aftermath of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased tourists from the state.

In an official statement, CM Fadnavis said the state government is actively coordinating efforts to bring back the stranded and injured tourists. “We are coordinating with the tourists. We have made arrangements for those who have contacted us. We are bringing some of them through IndiGo,” he stated.

Minister of State Muralidhar Mohol is overseeing the travel arrangements and is expected to request IndiGo to provide an additional flight to expedite the evacuation. “They will be brought to Maharashtra as soon as possible, as they are scared due to this incident,” the CM added.

Ministers Ashish Shelar and Mangal Prabhat Lodha are monitoring the arrangements at Mumbai Airport, while Union MoS Muralidhar Mohol and State MoS Madhuri Misal are coordinating from Pune.

Fadnavis confirmed that the state’s Disaster Management Centre is functioning round the clock to provide updates and facilitate support. “The injured are being treated there (in Kashmir). We will bring them back once doctors permit it,” he added.

The state government has also urged stranded tourists in Kashmir to reach out via the State Disaster Management helpline at 022-22027990 for assistance.

The official statement added that the bodies of the deceased tourists from Maharashtra and Gujarat will be flown from Srinagar to Mumbai this afternoon and transported to their respective hometowns via ambulances.

To assist tourists locally, the Srinagar District Administration has established a Help Desk/Emergency Control Room at the Collectorate.
