KCO hosts inspiring career guidance workshop for students

Media Release

Abu Dhabi, Apr 28: As part of its Pearl Jubilee celebrations, the Karnataka Cultural Organisation (KCO) organised a career guidance workshop on April 26 at the India Social Centre, Abu Dhabi. With a multitude of career options available in today’s complex and competitive world, the importance of career counselling has never been greater. The workshop, attended by students from Grade 8 to Grade 12, was received with immense gratitude and enthusiasm.

The programme commenced with a brief introduction by Jason Corea, who welcomed and introduced the keynote speaker, Ronald Olivera. This was followed by a warm welcome address by KCO president Leo Rodrigues.

In his speech, Rodrigues greeted the students, parents, and audience members. He stressed the importance of making informed career choices and developing the skills necessary to lead a dignified life while contributing meaningfully to society. He also highlighted the significance of timely decisions and noted that the workshop was part of the various programmes planned to mark KCO’s Pearl Jubilee year.

Nearly 60 attendees, including parents, participated in the workshop and engaged enthusiastically with the insights shared by Ronald Olivera, a world-renowned personality and CEO and founder of Zillion Pathways, Dubai. The inclusion of parents was particularly significant, as they play a vital role in helping children make informed career choices.

Throughout the session, discussions emphasised the importance of selecting the right career path, recognising that such choices profoundly impact students’ aspirations and their families' futures. Topics covered included career sensitisation, understanding interests, values and skills, and the factors influencing career selection. The session also explored career opportunities, higher education options, and scholarship possibilities. A Q&A segment allowed participants to seek personalised guidance.

A veteran Toastmaster, Ronald Olivera has won three international awards at the ‘International Taped Speech Contests’ organised by Toastmasters International. At the conclusion of the workshop, Olivera thanked KCO for organising the session and praised the benevolent work the organisation has been doing over the past 30 years.

Participants were treated to snacks, providing a chance for networking and further discussions after the session.

KCO is now preparing for its next event — the much-awaited Konkani drama ‘Yenaa Zalyaar Vachana’, written and directed by the multifaceted and talented Pradeep Barboza Paladka, along with his artistic team from Sangon Mugdana Kalakar.

The drama, which had been postponed, will now be staged on June 14, 2025, at the India Social Centre, Abu Dhabi.
