Los Angeles, May 3: Renowned filmmaker Paul Feig, who is currently directing ‘Another Simple Favor’, has expressed interest in continuing the popular dark comedy franchise with more sequels, hinting at a possible third film.
Speaking to ‘People’ magazine, Feig, best known for hits like Bridesmaids and Spy, revealed that he has mapped out storylines for future adventures of Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick’s characters, following the events of the upcoming sequel.
“I definitely know where I want it to go. We’ll see if everybody wants to do a third one,” Feig said. “It was too much fun — I would love to get back together with this group and these characters and send them on an even weirder, international adventure, if possible.”
‘Another Simple Favor’, a sequel to 2018’s hit thriller A Simple Favor, shifts the setting from the quiet suburbs of Connecticut to the stunning island of Capri, Italy. The film continues the story of Stephanie (Kendrick) and Emily (Lively) in a suspense-filled plot with unexpected twists.
The sequel ends with Stephanie gaining fame as a true-crime author, after exposing Emily’s long-lost triplet Charity, who is ultimately imprisoned. Meanwhile, Emily lives in secret in Rome, where she receives a mysterious envelope from her crime-boss mother-in-law Portia (played by Elena Sofia Ricci) — with yet another "simple favor".
Screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis, who worked alongside Jessica Sharzer, echoed Feig’s sentiments. “I certainly would love to get to spend time with these characters and these actors again,” she said.
Interestingly, Feig was initially hesitant to take on a sequel. “There were a lot of times in the development of this I tried to kill it,” he admitted, “because I was just like, ‘If we don’t get it right, let’s not do it.’”
The original 2018 film was based on Darcey Bell’s 2017 novel, and gained acclaim for its blend of mystery, humor, and stylish storytelling. With a potential third installment hinted, fans can expect more thrilling and glamorous escapades ahead.
