Mumbai, May 4: Mumbaikars can look forward to welcome relief from the sweltering heat, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for May 6 and 7, predicting thunderstorms, gusty winds (30–40 kmph), and light to moderate rainfall across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad.
The shift in weather is attributed to a strong western disturbance system active in the lower atmospheric levels. While Sunday remained warm with Santacruz recording 34.7°C and a minimum of 27.3°C, the IMD forecasts a drop in daytime temperatures to around 31°C as rains begin to set in.
Although no rainfall is expected today, intermittent thundershowers are likely to develop through the week, bringing much-needed respite to the region.
Meanwhile, air quality remains in the “moderate” range with an AQI of 84. While considered safe for the general population, sensitive individuals are advised to take precautions. The upcoming showers may aid in further improving air quality, enhancing overall environmental comfort.
