Mangaluru: Police register case over provocative WhatsApp post related to Suhas Shetty murder

Mangaluru, May 5: A case has been registered in connection with a provocative WhatsApp message calling for a district-wide bandh in protest against the recent murder of Suhas Shetty in Bajpe police station limits.

According to a press release issued by Mangaluru City Police on Monday, an individual identified as "Maneesh S" had posted a message on a WhatsApp group stating, “In protest of the murder of our karyakarta Suhas in Bajpe, Dakshina Kannada will observe a complete bandh today from 6 am to 6 pm. We will not let Suhas’ sacrifice go in vain. If we do not show our strength now, we may not survive in the future. Let us unite like drops of the Hindu ocean. Let the sacrifice not go in vain.”

Based on this post, a case was registered at Konaje police station under Crime No. 57/2025 invoking Section 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), for inciting disruption and unrest. The case has since been transferred to the Mangaluru City CEN Crime police station for further investigation.

Police have identified the accused as Maneesh from Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district. He is currently being interrogated, and the investigation is ongoing.

The authorities have reiterated that provocative and inflammatory content on social media will not be tolerated and strict legal action will follow against those attempting to disturb public peace.
