Accused in Saif Ali Khan stabbing case challenges legality of arrest

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, May 10: Mohammad Shariful Islam, the prime accused in the recent stabbing case involving actor Saif Ali Khan, has filed a petition in a Mumbai court seeking to declare his arrest unlawful.

The 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, currently held at Arthur Road Jail, claims he was not informed of all necessary legal details at the time of his arrest — a violation of due process, according to his application.

On the same day, Islam withdrew an earlier bail plea submitted last month to the sessions court. His lawyer, Ajay Gawli, subsequently filed a fresh application before the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Bandra, calling for his immediate release on the grounds of the alleged procedural lapse.
