New Delhi, May 12: India’s top military commanders, including senior officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force, on Monday detailed the strategic scope and impact of Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir beginning May 7.
At a high-level press briefing in the capital, DGMO Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, air marshal AK Bharti, and senior naval officers shared key insights into the mission and its aftermath, days after India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire understanding.

Key highlights from the briefing:
• Air marshal AK Bharti stated that while India's initial objective was to target terror infrastructure, Pakistan's military involvement forced an escalated response. “It is a pity that the Pakistani military chose to side with terrorists, widening the conflict,” he remarked.
• India's indigenous Akash air defence system performed exceptionally in combat, Bharti said, lauding government support over the past decade for strengthening defence capability.
• Multiple waves of Pakistani drones and unmanned combat aerial vehicles were successfully neutralised using Indian-made soft and hard kill counter-UAS systems, thanks to the preparedness of Indian Air Defence teams.
• A detailed presentation showcased the Indian Air Force’s targeted strikes and included visuals of PL-15 air-to-air missile debris, reportedly used by Pakistan during retaliatory strikes.
• Lt gen Rajiv Ghai used a cricket analogy while referring to India's layered air defence grid: “Even if you cross all layers, one will get you just like Thommo or Lillee in the Ashes.”
• “All our bases remain fully operational and ready for any future missions,” Bharti asserted.
Operation Sindoor, which served as an umbrella for India’s military responses following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, has been hailed as a decisive show of India's combat readiness and commitment to counterterrorism.
