Mumbai, May 13: Popular television actress Sonal Vengurlekar, known for her versatile roles across Indian television, has opened up about her latest creative venture—stepping into the antagonist’s shoes in the ongoing family drama ‘Jamai No. 1’. The actress called the experience both “challenging and creatively fulfilling,” as she delves into portraying a complex character full of psychological twists.
Sharing her excitement, Sonal said, “I’ve always believed that television antagonists are written with so much depth and complexity. While protagonists often stay confined to moral expectations, the real drama and excitement lie in exploring the grey areas—which antagonists allow.”
Sonal plays Sayli Deshpande, Neel’s (Abhishek Malik) childhood best friend from Trimbakeshwar. But Sayli’s return into Neel’s life is far from a sweet reunion. Intensely emotional, dangerously intelligent, and obsessively manipulative, Sayli is ready to go to any extent to reclaim Neel—even if it means shaking the very core of his marriage to Riddhi, played by Simaran Kaur.
“Sayli is not your typical negative character. Her psychological depth, her unpredictability, and emotional intensity made this role both creatively satisfying and challenging. I’m thrilled for the audience to witness this new twist,” Sonal shared.
With the show already striking a chord with audiences, Sonal’s entry as Sayli promises to add a riveting layer of intrigue to the narrative. ‘Jamai No. 1’ features Abhishek Malik and Simaran Kaur in lead roles, supported by Aarti Bhagat, Saniya Nagdev, Shruti Gholap, and Vora Dushyant.
Set in Nashik, the serial charts the journey of Neel, a young man striving to carve his own identity beyond traditional expectations set by his father, a devoted pujari. With Sonal Vengurlekar’s bold entry, viewers can expect more drama, intensity, and emotional highs in the episodes to come.
