Community leader and social worker Baptist D'Cunha passes away at 84

Mangaluru, May 21: Renowned social worker and community leader Baptist D'Cunha passed away at the age of 84. Born in Mogarnad, D'Cunha was a pioneering figure in various community welfare initiatives in and around Mogarnad and Bantwal.

A man of vision and compassion, he dedicated much of his life to uplifting underprivileged sections of the Christian community. He was particularly committed to the cause of education, having supported the education of countless students through financial assistance until the age of 75. D'Cunha was also a founding member of the Catholic Sabha, Mogarnad Unit.

Known for his tireless service and leadership, D'Cunha was widely respected for his efforts in bringing together and empowering local communities. At the time of his passing, he resided in Bikarnakatte with his children.

He is survived by his wife Juliana D’Souza and children Molly, Sr Joyline, Rons Bantwal, Dony Bantwal, and Stanley Bantwal.

Funeral arrangements:

The funeral rites will be held at Infant Mary Church, Bajjodi, on Thursday, May 22. The body will be brought home at 2:00 pm, followed by public viewing at the church from 2:45 pm to 3:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will begin at 3:30 p.m., after which burial will take place at the St Sebastian Church Cemetery.

The community mourns the loss of a selfless leader whose contributions will be remembered for generations to come.
