Moradabad, May 25: In a deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves across Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district, a 23-year-old woman, married just four months ago, died by suicide and left behind a gut-wrenching video, accusing her husband and in-laws of mental harassment and cruelty.
The deceased, Amreen Jahan, had a love marriage and had been living with her husband's family in Moradabad while her husband worked as a welder in Bengaluru. In a chilling video recorded moments before her death, Amreen detailed the emotional trauma, humiliation, and neglect she allegedly faced at the hands of her father-in-law Shahid, sister-in-law Khatija, and her husband.

"My husband asks me, ‘Why don’t you die?’ My in-laws say the same," Amreen said in the video, her voice trembling with emotion. She went on to allege that she had been continuously harassed following a miscarriage, with her in-laws mocking her food habits, cutting off her room’s power supply, and demanding repayment for her medical treatment.
Amreen also accused her husband of turning against her under the influence of his family. “He thinks everything is my fault. His father and sister keep whispering into his ears,” she said.
Her final words before ending her life on camera were, “I don’t know what will happen when I die, but I will be better off than I am now.”
Following the tragic discovery, Amreen’s father, Salim, rushed to her residence after receiving a desperate call from his daughter the previous day. She had reportedly cried over the phone, pleading with him to save her from her abusive in-laws. By the time he reached, she was found lifeless.
Police authorities have confirmed that Amreen’s body has been sent for autopsy, and an FIR has been registered based on Salim’s complaint. Investigations are underway, with officers stating that they are taking the matter seriously and that appropriate legal action will be taken against the accused.
The case once again highlights the pervasive issue of domestic abuse, particularly faced by women, even in love marriages, and the urgent need for support systems and intervention.
As social media erupted in grief and anger over the video, local women’s rights groups have demanded swift justice for Amreen and stringent punishment for those responsible for driving her to such a tragic end.
