Continuous rainfall causes widespread damage across Udupi District

Udupi, May 25: Continuous downpour in various parts of the district has caused widespread damage to property and disrupted normal life. Several incidents of destruction have been reported due to falling trees and waterlogging.

In one such incident, a house belonging to Girija Madivalthi in Kodavoor ward, Thondubettu, was severely damaged after a large tree fell on the structure. Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna visited the affected site and assured that compensation for the damage will be provided through the revenue department.

In another incident, a huge tree collapsed on the road in Havanje, leading to major disruption of vehicular traffic. Authorities were alerted and efforts are underway to clear the debris and restore normal movement.

The ongoing rains have caused damages amounting to approximately Rs 7.4 lacs across the district.

The district recorded a total of 76.1 mm of rainfall, with, 53.6 mm in Karkala, 68.2 mm in Kundapura, 80.9 mm in Udupi, 83.9 mm in Byndoor, 93.3 mm in Brahmavar, 48.9 mm in Kaup, and 114mm in Hebri taluks.

    Such damages ca be easily reduced when people or govt..Panchayat members have a look before rainy season beginns to try to cut branches which spread over the road.Or electric wires which hang over the trees.Even private persons too can look into their property.While sometimes wires are cut and pass over tree then they can be dangerous to Pedastrians.
