Bhopal, May 26: A political controversy has erupted in Madhya Pradesh after a video allegedly showing a local leader in a compromising position with a woman went viral on social media. The man in question, identified as Manohar Lal Dhakad from Mandsaur district, was arrested on Sunday after CCTV footage surfaced showing him involved in an obscene act along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
The video, reportedly recorded by cameras near a toll plaza, captured Dhakad and the woman engaging in objectionable behaviour outside a vehicle parked on the expressway. The footage quickly circulated across digital platforms, triggering massive public outcry and discussions with strong political undertones.

Acting swiftly, Bhanpura police registered a suo motu case against Dhakad under Sections 296, 285, and 3(5) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), citing public nuisance and obscene behaviour in a public space.
Speaking to the media, R.C. Dangi, in-charge of Bhanpura police station and the investigating officer, confirmed the arrest and said, “We are probing how the video was circulated and whether others are involved. Even though the video appears to be from CCTV, anyone in possession of such content must surrender it to the police. We are also looking into whether any other individuals were complicit in the crime.”
While the woman seen in the footage is yet to be taken into custody, police have stated that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine what legal actions may apply in her case.
Interestingly, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has swiftly distanced itself from Dhakad, asserting that he is not even a primary member of the party. Yashpal Singh Sisodiya, a former legislator from Mandsaur and BJP spokesperson, said, “This act is deeply shameful. However, Dhakad is not a recognised member of the BJP. Anyone can claim to be part of the party simply by giving a missed call to a designated number.”
Echoing the same, Mandsaur district BJP president Rajesh Dixit confirmed that Dhakad was never officially associated with the party.
Adding to the backlash, the Dhakad Mahasabha Yuva Sangh—a community body—has also condemned his actions and removed him from any affiliation with immediate effect.
The video, which surfaced online on the night of May 21, continues to make waves, drawing criticism from various quarters and highlighting the growing scrutiny of public figures in the digital age. Authorities are now focused on identifying the origin and spread of the footage while ensuring that appropriate legal action is taken.
