2 killed, 8 injured in Philadelphia Park mass shooting on Memorial Day night

Philadelphia, May 27: In yet another tragic episode of gun violence in the United States, a mass shooting at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on Monday night claimed two lives and left at least eight others injured, including suspected minors.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 pm at Lemon Hill Drive and Poplar Drive, as per local media. Police have not released the identities or ages of the deceased. The condition of the injured is yet to be officially confirmed, though at least two juveniles are believed to be among the victims.

The park was reportedly crowded during the day with Memorial Day cookouts, and over 200 teenagers were believed to be present at the time of the shooting, according to reports. As of now, no arrests have been confirmed, though Philadelphia police are actively investigating the scene.

This incident follows another shooting in South Carolina, where ten people were injured after a fight broke out on a private boat off Little River during a holiday weekend party on Sunday night. While no fatalities were reported in that case, some victims remain in critical condition, Horry County Police said.

The back-to-back shootings have reignited concerns over rising gun violence in the US, especially during public holidays when gatherings are larger and security challenges more complex.
