Tehran, Jun 21: Iran has warned that oil shipments through the strategic Strait of Hormuz could be disrupted ahead of upcoming talks with the United States, raising fresh concerns over global energy supplies.
The warning comes amid heightened tensions following conflicting claims over the status of the key waterway. Iran has said it has taken steps to restrict movement through the strait, citing alleged violations of a ceasefire arrangement in Lebanon. However, the US military has maintained that commercial traffic continues and that the waterway remains open.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and gas shipments. Any prolonged disruption could impact international crude prices and energy markets.

The developments come as Iranian and US representatives prepare for further discussions aimed at addressing broader regional tensions. The negotiations are being closely watched amid concerns that disputes over security arrangements and maritime access could affect the fragile diplomatic process.
Meanwhile, some oil shipments have continued through the waterway, with Indian-flagged tankers among vessels reported to have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz following the recent ceasefire understanding.
Analysts said the uncertainty surrounding the strait’s future operations remains a key factor for global energy markets as talks between Tehran and Washington move forward.
