Darbhanga, May 28: In a chilling act of violence, a long-serving government school teacher was shot dead by two unidentified assailants early Wednesday morning in Bihar's Darbhanga district.
The victim, Mansoor Alam, a respected primary school teacher from Teesi Parsauni village in Madhubani district, had been teaching at Nasirganj Primary School in Singhwada block for the past 15 years. According to police sources, Alam was commuting to school on his bicycle—his daily routine—when he was ambushed near the Bharwada-Kamtaul road, within Singhwada police station limits.
The attackers, riding a motorcycle, intercepted Alam and opened fire, shooting him in the head and shoulder. He died on the spot, just 500 meters from the school premises. The incident occurred around 6 a.m., sending shockwaves through the local community.

Hearing the gunshots, nearby residents rushed to the scene and quickly alerted the police. Sadar SDPO Jyoti Kumari, along with a team of officers, arrived promptly and transported the body to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. A forensic team was also deployed to collect critical evidence from the site.
“The investigation is ongoing. The deceased suffered two bullet wounds—one to the head and another to the shoulder,” confirmed SDPO Jyoti Kumari. Authorities have corroborated that two unidentified men on a motorcycle carried out the attack.
Alam had been residing in rented accommodation in Shankarpur village, located about two kilometers from the school. His untimely death has left his family in shock and mourning.
In response to the tragedy, the local community has voiced anger and concern, demanding swift justice and better security for teachers and daily commuters in the area. Police have assured Alam’s family that the culprits will be caught and brought to justice without delay.
“A full-scale investigation is underway. We are confident that those responsible will be identified and apprehended soon,” said SDPO Kumari.
As investigations continue, the killing has ignited conversations about safety and law enforcement effectiveness in the region, particularly concerning the protection of public servants.
