Jaipur, May 29: In a significant security operation, intelligence agencies have apprehended Shakoor Khan, a government clerk from Jaisalmer, on serious allegations of espionage. Khan, currently posted at the Mangalia District Employment Office, was detained after it came to light that he had visited Pakistan multiple times without prior departmental clearance.
Khan, a resident of Mangalia Ki Dhani in Baroda village, has a background in politics, having served as the personal secretary to former minister Saleh Mohammad in 2008 during his term as the MLA from Pokhran.
The arrest followed a tip-off received by intelligence units, prompting security officials to detain Khan directly from his office premises. During preliminary investigations, several Pakistani phone numbers were found on his mobile device—numbers he failed to account for. Under interrogation, Khan reportedly admitted to having travelled to Pakistan at least seven times in recent years.

Given Jaisalmer’s strategic location near the Indo-Pak border, the case has raised serious national security concerns. Multiple agencies, led by the Joint Investigation Committee, are now probing deeper into Khan’s activities and potential connections across the border.
Officials involved in the investigation emphasized the heightened alert across India in the wake of 'Operation Sindoor', launched in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. They stated that any link between Khan’s movements and cross-border intelligence operations is being thoroughly examined.
Following his detention on Wednesday night, Khan was moved from Jaisalmer to Jaipur for further questioning. As of now, no formal statement has been issued by central authorities, but sources confirm that the investigation remains active and multi-agency collaboration is underway.
Authorities are expected to release more details as the probe progresses, especially concerning Khan's repeated unauthorized international travel and unexplained foreign contacts.
