Kasargod, May 30: A tragic incident unfolded in Madhur near Kasargod on Friday, May 30, in the morning, as a Gulf returnee lost his life after being swept away by floodwaters.

The deceased has been identified as Sadiq (39), a resident of Karippody, Palkunnu. Sadiq, who had recently returned from the Gulf and was staying with his wife, had stepped out on foot to visit a relative’s house nearby when the mishap occurred.

According to sources, while walking across an open field near Patla Moger in Madhur, Sadiq slipped and fell into the water amid heavy flooding. He was in the company of his wife’s brother, Moythu, who fortunately escaped unhurt.

The area had been experiencing intense rainfall, causing the Madhuvahini River to overflow and flood surrounding low-lying fields. Authorities confirmed that Sadiq was swept away by the strong current created by the overflowing river.

Upon receiving information, personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, along with local residents, launched a search operation. His body was recovered a short distance from the site of the incident.

Tragically, Sadiq had returned to his hometown just a month ago and was expected to leave again for work abroad in the coming days. Following the post-mortem examination at the Kasargod General Hospital, the body was handed over to family members.
