Boulder, Jun 2: Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, has condemned as an act of terrorism a violent attack on Jewish demonstrators in Boulder, Colorado, where a man hurled Molotov cocktails at a peaceful rally demanding the release of hostages held by Hamas.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, was arrested after the assault, which occurred near the popular Pearl Street pedestrian mall and left several people injured.
The demonstration was organised by the group Run For Their Lives and was meant to draw attention to the plight of Israeli hostages amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
Taking to social media platform X, Ambassador Danon stated, “Terrorism against Jews does not stop at the Gaza border – it is already burning the streets of America.” He called for urgent action, adding, “This is not a political protest, this is terrorism.”
Eyewitness accounts and video footage revealed that Soliman, dressed only in jeans and sunglasses, shouted “Free Palestine” and “End Zionists… they are terrorists” while launching a makeshift flamethrower at the crowd, reportedly made using Molotov cocktails.
Fox News, quoting sources from the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), reported that Soliman is an Egyptian national who had overstayed his visa after entering the U.S. during the Biden administration.
The bustling area quickly turned into a scene of panic, with local police and FBI agents responding swiftly to detain the attacker. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the agency’s involvement in a social media post, describing the incident as a “targeted terror attack” and pledging a thorough investigation.
The attack has triggered renewed fears of rising antisemitic violence across the U.S. Just days earlier, two staffers at the Israeli embassy in Washington were reportedly shot dead by a man from Chicago who shouted pro-Palestinian slogans during his arrest.
