Trump targets Ex-DHS official who penned anonymous critique, sparks outcry

Washington, Jun 3: Miles Taylor, a former senior official in the Trump administration and author of an anonymous op-ed critical of the ex-president, has urged independent watchdogs to probe what he calls a politically motivated retaliation after Donald Trump ordered a review of Taylor’s past government service.

In an exclusive interview with the Associated Press, Taylor, who served as chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security, warned of the chilling implications of Trump’s April 9 memorandum, which directed federal agencies to investigate him for allegedly spreading falsehoods. The memo also seeks to revoke his security clearance.

“This is unprecedented. I’ve not committed any crime. Yet I’m being targeted for voicing criticism,” Taylor said, calling the memo an effort to silence dissent.

Taylor has written to the inspectors general of the Justice and Homeland Security departments, seeking protection and an inquiry into the Trump directive.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has ramped up efforts to boost fossil fuel production in Alaska. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin visited the state’s oil-rich Prudhoe Bay, vowing to double pipeline output and build a natural gas mega-project. The administration also announced plans to repeal Biden-era restrictions on development in sensitive parts of the National Petroleum Reserve.

In a separate development, a Wisconsin man, Demetric D Scott, faces multiple charges after allegedly forging a letter threatening Trump’s life to frame another man, Ramo´n Morales Reyes, in an apparent attempt to have him deported. Prosecutors say Morales Reyes is a key witness in an upcoming armed robbery trial involving Scott, who remains in custody.

The case has sparked outrage after Morales Reyes was arrested and later cleared, exposing a disturbing misuse of federal enforcement mechanisms.

As Trump’s political rhetoric escalates and agencies align with his agenda, critics warn of growing risks to institutional independence and democratic dissent.
