Mumbai, Jun 4: Tom Cruise’s high-octane espionage saga Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning may be losing steam at the Indian box office, but it has still managed to breach the coveted Rs 100 crore milestone in just 16 days since release.

On Day 18 (Tuesday), the action thriller saw its lowest single-day earnings, slipping below the Rs 1 crore mark for the first time, according to early estimates by trade tracker Sacnilk.com.

Despite the dip, the film's total gross collection in India has touched Rs 106 crore, with the net earnings estimated at around Rs 92.29 crore. The movie had a robust opening with Rs 54.4 crore in its debut week, followed by Rs 26.75 crore in the second. The third week so far has added approximately Rs 11.14 crore to its kitty.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the latest installment continues to benefit from Tom Cruise’s enduring popularity and the franchise’s loyal fanbase in India. The film now sets its sights on a bigger target — to outperform the Rs 131 crore benchmark set by Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, and become the highest-grossing entry in the franchise on Indian soil.

Interestingly, this is only the second Tom Cruise film to cross Rs 100 crore in India, a testament to the actor's growing fan following in the country.

However, industry analysts caution that with new releases lined up and the current pace slowing, the film will face a tough challenge in surpassing its predecessor.

Globally, The Final Reckoning has grossed $353 million, inching closer to its predecessor’s $571 million lifetime tally. While projections suggest a possible climb beyond $600 million, insiders point out that with a massive production cost of $400 million, the film needs to gross $1 billion worldwide to be considered profitable.

Back in India, fans of the franchise are still hopeful the film can go the distance and script box office history before its run ends.
