Bhandara, Jun 4: In a tragic incident from Manegaon village in Lakhni taluka of Bhandara district, Maharashtra, a 65-year-old paralytic man lost his life after a fire broke out, allegedly triggered by a beedi he was smoking.

The deceased has been identified as Omprakash Kamble. According to police, Kamble had been partially paralysed and confined to bed for the past five years. On Tuesday, while alone at home, he lit a beedi a hand-rolled cigarette which accidentally caused his clothes to catch fire.

With no one around to help, the fire spread rapidly, resulting in severe burn injuries. Kamble succumbed to the burns, police said on Wednesday.

The incident underscores the dangers of smoking, particularly among the elderly and bedridden individuals. Authorities are investigating further, though they have ruled out foul play.
