Kochi, Jun 5: After a modest box office performance, Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s psychological action-thriller Bazooka is now all set to make its digital premiere on ZEE5, starting today. Though the OTT platform had yet to officially list the film at the time of reporting, industry sources confirm the release is imminent.

Directed by first-time filmmaker Deeno Dennis, Bazooka offers a rare blend of psychological suspense, action, and gaming-inspired plot twists — a combination not often seen in Malayalam cinema. The story unfolds with Sunny Varghese, a young gamer boarding a bus from Kochi to Bengaluru, only to be caught in a mind-bending cat-and-mouse chase that quickly blurs the line between reality and strategy.

Mammootty stars as John Caesar, a calm, mysterious figure whose chance encounter with Sunny triggers a chain of high-stakes events. As the narrative deepens, John’s past as a former forensic expert with a haunting history emerges, pulling both characters into a dangerous spiral involving symbolic crimes, digital clues, and a sinister device named Bazooka.

The film also features Gautham Vasudev Menon, Divya Pillai, Sneha Ajith, and Joemon Jyothir in key roles. It has been jointly bankrolled by Yoodlee Films and Theatre of Dreams.

Though the film’s theatrical run in April 2025 saw a mixed response — with praise for Mammootty’s performance but criticism over its inconsistent pacing — Bazooka has managed to secure an IMDb rating of 7.5/10. This renewed interest could provide the film with a fresh audience on the digital platform.

For fans of layered narratives and psychological thrillers, Bazooka’s OTT release might just offer a second chance to appreciate its experimental storytelling and cerebral twists — elements that sometimes resonate better with the home-viewing audience than at the cinema halls.
