Bantwal, June 8: A complaint has been filed at the Bantwal Town Police Station seeking a thorough investigation into the death of Puttur City Municipal Councillor Ramesh Rai Nellikkatte, who reportedly died by suicide after jumping into a water tank near the banks of the Nethravathi river.
The deceased’s son, Vineesh, filed the complaint, expressing suspicion over the circumstances of his father's death. According to the complaint, Ramesh Rai had left his home in Puttur around 7 am and travelled to Bantwal. He parked his bike and allegedly jumped into the water tank.

Following the incident, the family raised concerns regarding possible foul play and urged police to scrutinize the call records from his mobile phone, which they believe may provide clues regarding the cause of death.
Bantwal Town police inspector Anantapadmanabha has initiated an investigation. The mobile phone’s SIM card has been sent to the technical wing for further examination.
