Mangaluru, Jun 11: Coconut water is a summer staple and a healthy thirst quencher that needs no introduction. However, what has caught the attention of netizens this week is the surprising appearance of a pink-coloured coconut in Mangaluru, which has now gone viral.

A Facebook page posted a photo of this unique pink coconut, captioning it with humour: ‘Just like the prices of winter jackets have increased, now even Mangaluru has received red-coloured coconuts from Indonesia!’

The post further clarified that this is not a coconut that has been artificially coloured—it naturally appears pink. The original coconut, known as bonda in local parlance, seems to have a red or pinkish hue. “It is from Indonesia and now it has reached India, and more specifically, Mangaluru. It was spotted in Mannagudda. Perhaps the coconut blushed and turned pink when it saw a camera,” the post jokingly added. However, at first glance, many suspected it might be painted with spray paint.

As the image spread widely online, netizens were both amused and intrigued. While some reacted with jokes, others questioned the authenticity. One user commented, “How did it turn pink?” while another quipped, “We have only seen white coconuts so far, now it is pink—next we will get blue ones!”

Curious users also raised genuine questions: “Is the water inside pink too, or is it clear?” Many expressed eagerness to find out whether the colour is natural or artificially induced.

While speculation continues, the majority of online commentators believe that the coconut's pink colour may be due to artificial colouring. Comment sections are filled with this theory, although an official confirmation is still awaited.
