Youth Channel Launches R-Day Special Rap Song

New Delhi, Jan 26 (IANS): On the ocassion of the country's 63rd Republic Day, youth channel UTV Bindass has launched a special rap number.

The number, sung by rap artist Tanmay Bahulekar aka Microphone3, gives a brief insight into the historical aspects of the day, and quickly moves onto what the day has come to mean today.

"Music has a very strong connect with the youth today. More than half of the total Indian population is below the age of 25 and it is important to reach out to this generation in a language that they understand best," Keith Alphonso, business head, UTV Bindass, said in a press statement.

"This catchy track by Tanmay is an initiative to reach out to today's youth and make them aware about the significance of the Republic Day. By presenting a rap track highlighting the views of today's youth, we are hopeful that the video will galvanise the youths to gain deeper understanding of all the things Republic Day embodies," added Alphonso.

The song will be on air and online Thursday.

In the past, the channel took a similar initiative for Independence Day last year, and also created a song on social activist Anna Hazare's movement, highlighting the views of today's youths.

The songs are part of UTV Bindass' property called "Rap Attack".
