Jerusalem, Jun 15: In a dramatic escalation of regional hostilities, a series of powerful missile attacks launched from Iran struck northern Israel late Saturday, leaving at least 8 dead, over 200 injured, and dozens missing, according to official sources.

Among the casualties, a 20-year-old woman was killed when a ballistic missile directly hit her home in Tamra, an Arab-majority city in northern Israel, as reported by Magen David Adom (MDA), the country's national emergency service. Another 13 people sustained injuries when a two-storey residential building in the Western Galilee was struck, prompting large-scale rescue operations.

Israel’s Channel 12 News reported that more than 40 missiles were fired during the barrage, triggering widespread panic as air raid sirens blared across Haifa, the Galilee region, and the Sea of Galilee area. In response, hundreds of thousands of residents rushed to shelters amid fears of further attacks.

Paramedics evacuated seven people with light injuries from the impacted areas, while Rambam Hospital confirmed it had received 13 wounded, including one in critical condition.

In Haifa, local police reported that shrapnel caused fires on a road and a nearby building. While no additional casualties were reported from these fires, emergency crews worked swiftly to bring them under control.

Adding to the chaos, three individuals were pulled from rubble by Israel’s Fire and Rescue teams, and several others were treated for severe anxiety attacks.

Following the assault, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the Israeli Air Force responded immediately, launching retaliatory strikes on military targets in Tehran.

Meanwhile, Iranian state media warned of “heavy and destructive” attacks on Israeli infrastructure, specifically threatening energy facilities, heightening fears of further conflict escalation.

This attack comes just a day after a previous wave of missile strikes claimed three lives and injured more than 200 people in central Israel, pushing the volatile Middle East region closer to a wider confrontation.

Search and rescue operations are underway, with emergency teams racing against time to locate 35 people reported missing in the aftermath of the missile strikes.
