Mumbai, Jun 15: In a tragic road mishap early Sunday morning, three persons lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries after a speeding truck collided with a private luxury bus in Maharashtra's Ahilyanagar district.
According to police sources, the accident took place around 6:00 am on the Kolhar-Ghoti state highway near the Sangamner area. The luxury bus was en route to the pilgrimage town of Shirdi from Mumbai when a truck, reportedly heading towards Sangamner from Loni, rammed into it at high speed.
The impact of the collision was severe, leading to the immediate death of two bus passengers and the co-driver of the truck. Local authorities and emergency responders rushed to the scene and initiated rescue operations. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The police have launched a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident and are trying to ascertain whether negligence or brake failure led to the tragic incident.
The untimely deaths have cast a pall of gloom over the region, especially among families of those travelling for spiritual purposes. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to prevent such devastating incidents on the highway.
