Washington, Jun 17: In a provocative series of posts on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump on Monday warned that he could order the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but was choosing not to act ‘for now’.
Trump claimed that American intelligence knew the exact location of Khamenei, calling him an ‘easy target’, but said any action was being held off to avoid retaliation against American civilians and troops.
“We know exactly where the so-called 'Supreme Leader' is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there – We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now,” Trump posted.
He added, “But we don't want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin.”
The statements escalated further when Trump followed up with a post in all capital letters, writing:
‘UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!’
Trump's threatening tone comes amid growing tensions between Washington and Tehran, especially following recent unrest in the Middle East. His remarks have triggered strong reactions online, raising fears of a potential diplomatic or military escalation.
The White House and Pentagon have not officially commented on the posts. International observers are closely watching how Iran will respond to the inflammatory rhetoric.
