Mumbai, Jun 19: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, forecasting intermittent spells of heavy rain across isolated areas of the city on Thursday. This comes after the city experienced light to moderate showers throughout Wednesday.

The IMD's short-term forecast late Wednesday evening warned of intensified rainfall in certain pockets, prompting city authorities to remain on alert. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) automatic weather system, the island city recorded 40.67 mm of rain, while the eastern and western suburbs registered 25.37 mm and 23.34 mm respectively, between 8 am and 8 pm.

Neighbouring districts Raigad and Ratnagiri, currently under an orange alert, are likely to witness very heavy downpours. Civic authorities have urged residents in low-lying areas to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during peak rain hours.
