Udupi: Police crack down on cattle theft, illegal beef transport; two arrested

Udupi, June 21: The police department in Udupi district has intensified its action against cattle theft and the illegal transportation of beef, arresting two individuals in separate incidents this week.

On June 16, unknown miscreants reportedly stole three cattle from the Ahimsa Animal Care Trust in Bajagoli, Mudaru village of Karkala taluk. The stolen cattle are estimated to be worth around Rs 10,000.







 

Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Karkala Rural police station. One of the accused, Saleem (38), son of Abdul Rehman from Kallabettu, Mijar, Moodbidri (Dakshina Kannada), has been arrested. The car used in the crime, bearing registration number KA 03 MN 6640, has also been seized. Two other suspects are still at large.

In a separate incident on Saturday, June 21, at a crossroad near Guheshwara Temple in Hosaadu village, Gangolli police intercepted Abdul Rahim (35) transporting approximately 25 kilos of beef on a TVS Jupiter scooter (KA 20 HD 7124) without any valid permission. The meat is estimated to be worth Rs 7,500.

A case has been filed. Abdul Rahim, from Gangolli, Kundapura taluk, has been taken into custody and the scooter has been seized.

Additionally, on June 18, at around 2:54 am, an attempted cattle theft was reported in front of the KEB office. During the investigation of this case (Gangolli Police Station Crime No. 69/2025), it was revealed that Abdul Rahim was also involved in this incident.
