Jerusalem, Jun 26: In a bold and unambiguous statement, Mossad chief David Barnea has confirmed that Israel’s intelligence agency will continue its covert operations inside Iran, even after a ceasefire was officially declared between the two long-feuding nations.
A video released by Mossad on Wednesday shows Barnea addressing a gathering of operatives at the agency’s operational headquarters just hours after the ceasefire came into effect on Tuesday.
“We will continue to keep a close eye on all of Iran's projects that we already know in the most in-depth way,” Barnea said. “We will be there, as we have been there until now.”
Barnea credited Mossad's cutting-edge intelligence gathering, advanced technologies, and what he described as "unimaginable operational capabilities" for significantly disrupting Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “We helped the Air Force dismantle key components of the Iranian nuclear programme, achieve aerial superiority, and reduce the missile threat. This has ensured greater security for the citizens of Israel,” he asserted.
Notably, the Mossad chief also extended gratitude to the United States' Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for what he described as “joint activity” in their operations.
The latest development comes in the wake of a high-intensity military exchange earlier this month. On June 13, Israel conducted sweeping airstrikes across Iran, targeting nuclear facilities and military installations. The attacks reportedly killed several senior Iranian commanders, nuclear scientists, and numerous civilians. Iran retaliated with successive missile and drone attacks, striking key locations in Israel and causing significant casualties and damage.
The fragile ceasefire that took effect on Tuesday has provided a temporary lull in hostilities. However, Barnea’s remarks suggest that intelligence and clandestine activities will remain active behind the scenes, maintaining high tensions between the two rival states.
With regional and global powers closely monitoring the situation, the road ahead remains uncertain as both nations brace for potential future escalations.
