Dubey accuses Congress MPs of Soviet links, cites declassified CIA document

New Delhi, Jun 30: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has stirred controversy by citing a declassified CIA document from 2011, alleging that over 150 Congress Members of Parliament were funded by the Soviet Union and acted as Russian agents. Sharing what he described as unclassified intelligence material via his official X handle, Dubey claimed the operation was overseen by late Congress leader H.K.L. Bhagat. In his post titled “Congress, Corruption, and Slavery,” he asserted that Bhagat coordinated a covert nexus that involved not only politicians but also a network of journalists who supposedly worked in alignment with Soviet interests.

According to Dubey, the document outlines how Soviet support infiltrated India’s political and media landscape, allegedly facilitating the publication of around 16,000 pro-Russian news articles. He also claimed that around 1,100 Russian intelligence personnel were stationed in India at the time, operating across bureaucratic corridors, business houses, communist factions, and media outlets, thereby influencing the country’s internal policies.

The BJP leader extended his accusations to individual Congress members, including Subhadra Joshi, alleging she received ?5 lakh from the German government for election purposes and later took charge of the Indo-German Forum after her defeat. He concluded his statement with a scathing rhetorical question, asking whether India had become a “nation of slaves, agents, and middlemen,” and demanded that the Congress respond to the claims and that an investigation be launched.
