Narsinghpur, Jul 1: In a gruesome incident that has sent shockwaves across Madhya Pradesh, a 19-year-old girl was brutally murdered inside the emergency ward of a government hospital in Narsinghpur, as hospital staff and bystanders watched helplessly and failed to intervene.
The victim, Sandhya Chaudhary, a Class 12 student, was attacked and killed in full public view on June 27 by Abhishek Koshti, a man reportedly obsessed with her. Startling CCTV and mobile footage from the hospital surfaced on Monday, exposing a complete breakdown in hospital security and public safety.

The footage reveals the horrifying sequence: Abhishek slaps Sandhya, throws her to the floor, sits on her chest and slits her throat — all within the emergency wing, barely meters away from doctors, nurses, ward staff, and two posted security guards, none of whom made any effort to stop the assailant.
Eyewitnesses say the assault lasted nearly 10 minutes, during which no one intervened. Some hospital staff are even seen walking past the scene, while Sandhya lay bleeding to death on the floor.
The accused, after committing the crime, attempted to slit his own throat, failed, fled on a motorcycle parked outside, and disappeared from the scene.
According to hospital sources, Abhishek had been seen loitering around the facility since noon, waiting for Sandhya, who had gone to visit a friend's sister-in-law in the maternity ward. The two exchanged words outside Room 22, before the confrontation turned deadly.
The failure of hospital staff and security to protect the girl has led to massive outrage. Terrified by the incident, eight of the eleven patients in the trauma ward took discharge the same day, with the remaining leaving the next morning.
Sandhya’s family was informed over an hour later, and by the time they reached the hospital, her body was still lying at the crime scene — a stark symbol of institutional apathy.
Angry locals and family members blocked the road outside the hospital in protest. The agitation continued late into the night and was only quelled at 2 am after officials assured strict action against those responsible for the security lapse.
The incident has reignited serious concerns about women’s safety, especially in public institutions meant to serve and protect. As calls grow louder for justice, the state administration is under immense pressure to take immediate and decisive action.
