Poetica’s 40th Kavigoshti at Madanthyar showcases richness of Konkani poetry and culture

Beltangady, Jul 2: The 40th edition of Poetica Kavigoshti (poetry meet) was held with grandeur at Sacred Heart Church Hall, Madanthyar. Organized jointly by Catholic Sabha Madanthyar Unit, Rangtarang Madanthyar and Poetica team, the event turned into a remarkable celebration of Konkani literature and local culture.

Presiding over the event, Dr Stany Goveas, parish priest of Madanthyar, delivered an inspiring message on the spiritual and cultural significance of poetry. The opening prayer was led by Fr Larry Pinto, assistant parish priest.

Denis D’Silva, president of Ami Ani Amchi, was the chief guest and commended the organizers for their unwavering commitment to promoting Konkani language, literature, and artistic talent.

Vincent D’Souza, president of the Catholic Sabha Madanthyar Unit, welcomed the dignitaries and participants. The programme was formally inaugurated by Leo Rodrigues, vice president of the Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh Central Committee, who also delivered the keynote address.

Dr Tyson D’Cunha, a renowned artist, was honoured for his contributions to the visual arts. Rolphy D’Costa, advisor to the Catholic Sabha Central Committee, was also felicitated for his consistent support and guidance.

Prominent attendees included church pastoral council vice president Gerald Moras, secretary Nelson Lobo, Poetica convenor Naveen Pereira, Surathkal and Catholic Sabha Beltangady Varado president Albert Sunil Monis, along with other office bearers.

A total of 30 poets recited their original works during the evening. The presentations were introduced in five themed batches by literary curators Dr Rudolph Joyer Noronha (Kinnigoli) and Lavi Ganjimatta.

Notable participating poets included Henry Mascarenhas Ganjimata, Melisha Lasrado Madanthyar, Remi Katipalla, Reshma Lobo Taccode, Sunil Gonsalves Madanthyar, Lolla Ujire, Sunitha Sequeira Madanthyar, Stanislaus D’Souza Kirem, Edward Lobo Thokkottu, Pedru Prabhu Taccode, Maria Pinto Kulshekar, George Ligory D’Souza Surathkal, Lancy Sequeira Surathkal, Lilly Pereira Naravi, Diana Fernandes Madanthyar, Jerald Moras Madanthyar, Juliet Moras Derebail, Telma Madta Madanthyar, Jossy Pinto Kinnigoly, Naveen Pereira Surathkal, Valerian Moras Taccode, Roshan Castelino Paladka, Edi Cardoza Taccode, Janet D’Souza Madanthyar, Janet Serrao Ujire, Nelson Monis Madanthyar, Vinod Pinto Taccode & Roshan Crasta Kulshekar among others, who enthralled the audience with their poetic voices.

The Blue Brass Band of Badyar brought a festive, local flavour to the occasion with their traditional brass music, turning the event into a cultural celebration and evoking a strong sense of community pride.

The Rang Tarang Drama Troupe added further vibrancy with their engaging cultural performances.

Nelson Monis from Madanthyar entertained the audience by singing his own song.

Vinay D’Souza offered the vote of thanks, and Vincy Moras skillfully compered the programme. The evening concluded with a fellowship dinner, rounding off a meaningful celebration of Konkani poetry and cultural unity.
