Udupi, Jan 30: “Those who rob money, property, government facility, services etc which genuinely belong to someone else, cannot be treated as humans. They are just living beings filled with greed,” said former Karnataka Lokayukta, Justice N Santosh Hegde.

He was speaking after inaugurating Gandhi Auditorium built in memory of the late Dr Narayana Shetty Kolkebail Hosamane, who also was popularly known as ‘Gandhiyanna’, at Mekkekattu Lord Nandikeshwara shrine near Brahmavar in the taluk on Sunday January 29. This hall has been built for the convenience of the devotees.

“Only those who empathise with other human beings and vibe with their predicaments and sorrows, can be treated as humans. Corruption is getting support and acceptance because of the people’s attitude of treating corrupt and honest people alike. Unless the society takes a resolve to boycott corrupt people, movements and agitations aimed at rooting out corruption will fail,” he opined.

Trustee of Mekkekattu shrine, K Ramanna Hegde, presided. MLC, K Pratapchandra Shetty, Kundapur MLA, Halady Srinivas Shetty, former minister, K Jayaprakash Hegde, Bangalore-based senior advocate, K Diwakar, and others were present.

On the occasion, Bhojaraja Shetty, and Shivaprasad Shetty, who have donated land for the construction of the hall, were feted.

Satyanath Shetty welcomed. Kishen Hegde Kolkebail delivered introductory address. Ganesh Nayak compered the programme. Shivaprasad Shetty proposed vote of thanks.

The corruption brandwagon has gained 'currency' and it has almost become a 'fashion' to talk about in all platforms. As to how corruption has spread it's tentacles and are all speaking against it are 'Satya Harischandra's' is the million dollar question. Maybe some enlightened has to write about 'What Constitutes Corruption'and it should be accepted universally. Otherwise hogging the limelight on this issue will continue- and 'Anukool Shastri's' will keep on taking advantage!
