Mangalore, Jan 30: The policemen of Suratkal station have arrested five persons, who allegedly assaulted security guards of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd premises by entering the third phase of MRPL, which is under construction.

They have been identified as Abdul Hamid (19), Irshad (29), Abdul Aziz (25), Abdul Sheikh (23), and Bawa Kalandar (24) from Mangalpet.

As per a police complaint, they had entered the compound of MRPL in an auto rickshaw and beat up on-duty security guards, Manik and Manoj, before posing life threat. It is suspected that the five accused vandalized the venue, making use of the opportunity provided by a protest organized at the spot concerning the death of a motor bike rider after he was knocked down by a truck carrying materials to MRPL near its gate on Thursday night.

The accused have succeeded in getting bail.
