Mangaluru engg student lands Rs 72.3 lac Rolls-Royce job, juggles college with midnight job training

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jul 13: In an inspiring story capturing the imagination of the student community across the coastal region, K S Rituparna, a 20-year-old engineering student from Vyasnagar, Mangaluru, has secured a high-paying job at global aerospace and defence major Rolls-Royce with an annual package of Rs 72.3 lac — an extraordinary feat for someone still in her sixth semester.

Rituparna, daughter of chemists Suresh and Geetha, is currently pursuing a degree in Robotics and Automation at Sahyadri College of Engineering. Initially disappointed after failing to secure a medical seat through NEET, what began as a reluctant alternative has now turned out to be life-changing.

Though she could not get an internship with Rolls-Royce, Rituparna stayed committed for eight months, attending multiple interviews and assessments with the company’s American division. Her perseverance has now paid off, and she will join Rolls-Royce’s Texas unit after completing her seventh semester.

Currently, she is undergoing training from midnight to 6 am, while attending college lectures during the day — a schedule she says requires discipline, minimal sleep, and tremendous focus.

From NEET setback to international recognition

Rituparna once aspired to become a doctor. After that dream didn’t materialise, her parents encouraged her to explore new options. She enrolled in Robotics and Automation in 2022 and soon discovered her passion.

In her first year, she invented a harvesting and sprayer device that earned her a gold medal at an international innovation conference in Goa, attended by participants from over 15 countries. Her innovation streak continued with the design of a mobile app to address waste management challenges faced by Mangaluru City Corporation — a project that drew appreciation from the then district collector.

She is an inspiration to others: Proud father

“She goes to college by government bus and has shown that hard work and perseverance can take anyone to great heights,” said her father Suresh. “She spent eight months preparing for interviews at Rolls-Royce. Her patience and dedication have truly paid off.”

In her own words, Rituparna shared, “I didn’t think I had what it takes to get selected by Rolls-Royce. I’m only in the second batch of our college’s Robotics and Automation course. I owe my success to my parents, teachers, and friends for their constant support.”

Her journey — from facing academic setbacks to becoming a high-earning professional at a global brand — is a shining example of resilience, innovation, and the power of belief.

As Rituparna prepares to begin her professional journey in the United States, Mangaluru beams with pride at one of its young achievers who dared to dream — and made it come true.
